MIDDLE SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELING IS...
Counseling with: (For all students. Parental permission required.)
Individual Students: to help them express concerns and problems, to better understand themselves and others, and to work towards positive educational/personal/social development.
Developmental Groups: to help children learn from each other and share common concerns. These groups explore: feeling, values, attitudes, experiences, decision making, and interrelationships.
Problem-Centered Groups: to deal with concerns that may be interfering with learning, disruptive classroom behavior, inadequate social skills, underachievement, personal/social issues.
Counseling with:
Teachers: to evaluate behaviors and individual needs of students, to assist in enhancing the total development of children, to provide suggestions for behavior management, and to offer service in workshops.
Parents: to promote effective parenting skills, to help with problems that may be occurring at home, and to follow up on the concerns and progress of the child
Specialists: to work appropriately to promote maximum development of the child's educational potential.
Administrators: to provide the most effective learning atmosphere schools can offer.
Coordinating with:
Teachers: to gain information, to provide and assist with guidance activities in the classroom.
Parents: to encourage positive home/school relationships.
New Students: to orient them to the school.
Special Services Staff: to better serve students with special needs.
Community Agencies: to make appropriate arrangement (or referrals) and follow-up services.
